After being into sport since I could just walk, I went on to study BSc(hons) Sport and Exercise Therapy at Leeds Beckett University. Here I had keen interests in Cardiac Rehabilitation, Spinal & Peripheral Anatomy, Sports Trauma & rehabilitation. I went on to produce an extended research project to discuss the mental and physical effects of addictive behaviours in endurance athletes, especially males, as evidence in this subject was minimal. I started my MSc Sport Medicine in January 2021 and will be finished in 2023.
I have worked at Up and Running for the last 4/5 years performing gait analysis & fitting shoes. Studying biomechanics at university allowed me to understand in much more depth how the body works during different movements, such as running. I also worked in the Sports Injury Clinic at LBU where it was my job to assess, diagnose and treat students and athletes at the university. I undertook a placement year, where I worked with a semi-professional rugby team, where I got to put into practice my injury and pitch side knowledge- to say the least, I saw some pretty gruesome injuries (my favourite part).
More recently, I have joined the NHS where I am working on the Cardiac Rehabilitation team as an Assistant Cardio-Pulmonary Practitioner. This is an exciting role where I am working in a multi-disciplinary team with the aims to rehabilitate those suffering from cardiac problems. I am also part of the team researching/fascilitating the set up of new service combining Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
I grew up as a footballer (you’d never guess I played centre back ), playing for town & county level. But after my ankles started to resemble breadsticks, I went on to find my love for running, and then further for triathlon.
I'm currently a member of the Darlington Harriers and Darlington Triathlon Club, where I regularly compete in road, XC races and triathlons.
